Does the current Pope of Rome (Pope Francis) have Brother who is a Seventh Day Adventist?

-----

Every time I encounter articles/reports like this one, I ask myself these types of questions:

Is this true?

Is this speculation?

Is this one of those disinformation propaganda stances to make people panic?

Is the person(s) mentioned being misrepresented?

-----

Regardless of the GC's Official response (AToday, 25 Jul 2013) ...

Maybe this time around, it has an element of truth.

Yes, I saw this about a week ago, and watched it and read the sub-text. What do you think?

I had heard this some time ago when this Pope first took office and a comment of his was he had a vision of bringing the Adventist church back into the fold.  May not be a hoax.

There used to be an old saying, "you cannot believe anything you hear and only Half of what you see."

Now it is 'you cannot believe anything you hear and very, very little of what you see!'

SD Adventists, put your foot down and come up with the straight testimony of the true witness, Jesus Christ.

Let the Truth be hammered out!  We must have it!  No half way stuff!  We can get it, it is free, John 16:13, it is His promise to us!

1Jo 4:5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.
1Jo 4:6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error
1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

RLH asked: What do you think?

-----

James responds:

First off; I did not realise it, but Gibs has already started a Thread on this in the Town Hall Section - about two weeks ago.

My apologies. If I had known sooner, then I would not have started a New Thread.

... Moving on.

I find the story to be quite interesting.

I do know that a lot (probably Most) professing to be SDAs simply parrot the words of their dumb-dog leaders ("men who will never again lift up their voice like a trumpet to show God's people their transgressions and the house of Jacob their sins" - 5T p211) ... and presumptuously declare: "He's a former SDA who has an axe to grind". -- as though that were the be-all and end-all of the matter.

I've watched the video -- Show me one minute point in that video where he "grinds an axe" toward the so-called SDA Church! -- The only one I see him "slamming" is Francis (aka Jorge). -- If anything, I see Hugo Gambetta defending EGW's book The Great Controversy.

Having said that, I have no intention of allowing this story (or debates about it) to consume a great deal of my time. I've more important things to pursue.

But I will say this:

As mentioned, I find the story to be quite interesting. I try to be a good Berean about such things. As such, I find the story to be "three sided".

1- It's not true whatsoever

2- It is true (which at this point in time I don't have any reason to believe its not true)

2a - Oscar Adrian Bergoglio (Jorge/Francis brother) is basically a "nobody", and as such, there's probably no reason to get excited.

2b - Oscar Adrian Bergoglio is a Jesuit like the rest of his family, and as such, there's the possibility that at one time or another he managed to obtain an "important position" within the SDA Church; for example, perhaps a position along the lines of the General Conference Officers Committee.

But don't let it be said that James is saying this is what actually happened! (lest such person be found a liar) -- As I said, I'm just trying to be a good Berean about these things and consider the matter.

And to anyone who foolishly believes that the SDA Leadership is entirely trustworthy and would never attempt to use any deceptive tactics toward the laity, to such foolish virgins I would emplore you to get on your knees and beg Jesus to give you the "eyesalve" He speaks of in Revelations ch 3.

---

Until I see a "smoking gun", the above is all I have to say about this matter.
