I have a question for you all.  Last Sabbath I heard Elder Bohr preaching on 3ABN.  I've always enjoyed his sermons but this one caused me to pause.

Elder Bohr said the Ten Commandments were written by the finger of the Holy Spirit, not God the Father.  He said it VERY plainly. I couldn't believe what I was hearing as this was new to me.  He uses the New King James version of the Bible and to prove this thought, he said in Matthew when it speaks of Jesus healing the demoniac that it says He healed him by the power of the Holy Spirit. But in the book of Luke, the same story, it says Jesus healed him by the power of his finger.  Therefore, it was the Holy Spirit who wrote the Ten commandments by His finger.

I will be honest and say this has caused me to pause.  I tried to find in the SOP definite words that God the Father wrote the Ten Commandments but Sister White uses the words: God--when she says who wrote the 10-c with His finger.  Normally Sister White uses terms quite straight-forward, such as God for God the Father, Jesus (or Christ) for the Son and the word Holy Spirit in reference to the HS.   All three of the Godhead are made very plain in who she is talking about.

And she says clearly in Patriarchs and Prophets that God wrote the 10-C by His finger.

Have any of you heard this before?  I use the King James version of the Bible and I couldn't find what Elder Bohr was talking about as I didn't take down his exact Bible references since he gave them before he stated this strange information.  I was sorry I didn't write them down.

I can't buy this until I read it in the Bible or SOP.  Anyone have any ideas about this?

I've always thought it was Jesus that wrote the 10 C as He was the one speaking and revealing Himself to Moses.

Interesting, Newbie.  I've always thought it was God the Father who wrote them with His finger....here are some statements that make me think that...

Quote   In the ark was the golden pot of manna, Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of stone which folded together like a book. Jesus opened them, and I saw the ten commandments written on them with the finger of God. On one table were four, and on the other six. The four on the first table shone brighter than the other six. But the fourth, the Sabbath commandment, shone above them all; for the Sabbath was set apart to be kept in honor of God's holy name. The holy Sabbath looked glorious--a halo of glory was all around it. I saw that the Sabbath commandment was not nailed to the cross. If it was, the other nine commandments were; and we are at liberty to break them all, as well as to break the fourth. I saw that God had not changed the Sabbath, for He never changes. But the pope had changed it from the seventh to the first day of the week; for he was to change times and laws.  {EW 32.3}
In the very same paragraph, she mentions JESUS and GOD, specifying what each of THEM did.

Quote The commandment reads as when spoken by the voice of God in solemn and awful grandeur upon the mount, while the lightnings flashed and the thunders rolled; it is the same as when written with His own finger on the tables of stone: "Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work: but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God." They are amazed as they behold the care taken of the ten commandments. They see them placed close by Jehovah, overshadowed and protected by His holiness. They see that they have been trampling upon the fourth commandment of the decalogue, and have observed a day handed down by the heathen and papists, instead of the day sanctified by Jehovah. They humble themselves before God and mourn over their past transgressions.  {EW 255.1}

Quote  They murmured against God because of difficulties in the way, and wished to return again to Egypt. To leave them without excuse, the Lord himself condescended to come down upon Sinai, enshrouded in glory, and surrounded by his angels, and in a most sublime and awful manner made known his law of ten commandments. He did not trust them to be taught by any one, not even his angels, but spoke his law with an audible voice in the hearing of all the people. He did not, even then, trust them to the short memory of a people who were prone to forget his requirements, but wrote them with his own holy finger upon tables of stone. He would remove from them all possibility of mingling with his holy precepts any tradition, or of confusing his requirements with the practices of men.  {1SP 263.1}

When Moses went up in the mount for 40 days, it was to commune with God the Father, remember?  It was at the end of the 40 days, that God the Father gave Moses the 10 Commandments, written with His own finger.  I've never read anything about it being written by the Holy Spirit....I think he is off on some tangent....

Thank you Tammy and Newby.  I did study this out more this morning and found this:

Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 314

"There was delivered to Moses, a copy of the decalogue engraved by the finger of God Himself upon two tables of stone."

When Sister White says "God Himself" to me that clearly is God the Father.

I also found the verses Elder Bohr was referring to, Luke 11:20 and Matt. 9:32-33.  What is interesting is in my Bible, while in Luke it does say Jesus healed by the finger of God just as Elder Bohr said, it does not say anything about the Holy Spirit healing in Matt. 9:32-33 which tells the same story.

I don't own a New King James Version of the Bible but it is possible Elder Bohr's version says Holy Spirit in it in Matt 9.  But the King James version does not.  It just says Jesus healed him.

I believe Elder Bohr is not correct in what he said.  And I would imagine those he was preaching to would see this and correct him on it.

None of the previously posted quotes from Ellen White indicate which member of the Godhead actually wrote on the tablets of stone. It seems a little speculative for Bohr to categorically state that it was the Holy Spirit. I have always assumed that it was the preincarnate Christ, God the Son. I could be wrong (perish the thought).
       Who did John see sitting on the throne in Rev.4&5?

We don't have to argue Robin, just examine  the evidence, and it is far from useless. It could be significant.
